Materials:
500 (550) g of Lana Grossa „Lunare” (58% polyamide, 42% cotton; 100 m/50 g) in Charcoal (col 12). Size 5 mm needles; size 5 mm circular needle, 60 cm long; seven 20 mm buttons in silver [by Union Knopf, item 23108, col 831].

Seed Stitch:
K1, p1; on foll rows, knit all purl sts, purl all knit sts.

Stockinette:
K on RS, p on WS.

Reverse stockinette:
P on RS, k on WS.

Lace panel:
Worked over 10 sts according to chart. Numbers at right edge of chart indicate RS rows; numbers at left edge of chart indicate WS rows. Repeat rows 1 – 4 throughout.

2 selvage stitches:
At beg of RS rows, slip first 2 sts as if to purl with yarn in back of work; at end of RS rows, knit last 2 sts. At beg of WS rows, slip first 2 sts as if to purl with yarn in front of work; at end of WS rows, purl last 2 sts.

Gauges:
On size 5 mm needles, 16 sts and 24 rows = 10 x 10 cm in seed st; 10 sts and 24 rows = 7 x 10 cm for lace panel.

Back:
With size 5 mm needles, cast on 78 (86) sts. Beg with a WS row, work in seed st for 9 rows = 5 cm, then work in stockinette for 2 rows, then work in reverse stockinette for 2 rows, then work in stockinette for 2 rows. Next, work in seed st again and work side shaping as foll: Dec 1 st at beg and end of 5th row, then every foll 4th row 4 times = 68 (76) sts. Cont until back measures 19 cm from cast-on, ending with a WS row. Inc 1 st at beg and end of next RS row, then every foll 6th row 4 times = 78 (86) sts. Work increased sts into seed st. Cont until back measures 33 cm from cast-on, ending with a WS row. Shape armholes: Bind off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows, 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows and 1 st at beg of next 4 rows. * Work 2 rows even. Bind off 1 st at beg of next 2 rows. Repeat from * once = 60 (68) sts. Next, work in stockinette for 2 rows, then work in reverse stockinette for 2 rows, then work in stockinette for 2 rows. Next, work in seed st until armhole measures 20 (21) cm, ending with a WS row. Shape shoulders and neck: Bind off 5 (7) sts at each shoulder edge once, then 6 (7) sts twice. At same time, on first row of shoulder shaping, shape neck: Bind off center 22 sts. Working each side separately, bind off 2 sts at each neck edge once. No sts remain.

Left front:
With size 5 mm needles, cast on 43 (47) sts. Beg with a WS row and working 2 selvage sts at front edge, work in seed st for 9 rows = 5 cm, then work in stockinette for 2 rows, then work in reverse stockinette for 2 rows, then work in stockinette for 2 rows. Next RS row: Selvage st, work 20 (24) sts in seed st, work the 10 sts of the lace panel according to chart once, work 10 sts in seed st, 2 selvage sts. Work in pat as established and work decreases and increases for side shaping at right edge same as for back. Cont until left front measures same length as back to armhole. Shape armhole at right edge same as for back = 34 (38) sts. Work next WS even in pat. Continuing to work the 2 selvage sts at front edge, work in stockinette for 2 rows, then work in reverse stockinette for 2 rows, then work in stockinette for 2 rows. Next, work in seed st until left front measures 47 (48) cm from cast-on, ending with a RS row. Shape front neck edge: Bind off 12 sts at beg of next WS row, 2 sts at beg of next WS row, 1 st at beg of next 3 WS rows and when left front measures same length as back to shoulder, shape shoulder at right edge same as for back.

Right front:
Work same as for left front, reversing all shaping and pat placement and working 5 buttonholes on RS rows, working first buttonhole on 4th row from cast-on and remaining 4 buttonholes spaced 22 rows apart. For each buttonhole, work first 3 sts, yo, k2tog or p2tog, keeping in pat, work to end.

Sleeves:
With size 5 mm needles, cast on 40 (44) sts. Beg with a WS row, work in seed st for 9 rows = 5 cm, then work in stockinette for 2 rows, then work in reverse stockinette for 2 rows, then work in stockinette for 2 rows. Next RS row: Selvage st, work 14 (16) sts in seed st, work the 10 sts of the lace panel according to chart once, work 14 (16) sts in seed st, selvage st. Work in pat as established for 20 cm, ending with a WS row. Cont in pat and shape sleeve as foll: Inc 1 st at beg and end of next RS row, then every foll 8th row 5 times = 52 (56) sts. Work increased sts into seed st. Cont until sleeve measures 46 cm from cast-on, ending with a WS row. Shape sleeve cap: Bind off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows, 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows, 1 st at beg of next 28 rows and 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Bind off remaining 10 (14) sts.

Left front pocket flap:
With size 5 mm circular needle and 2 strands of yarn held tog, pick up and knit 16 sts along first purl row from end of lace panel = 2nd row of first stockinette strip. Pick up 3 sts before lace panel, 10 sts across lace panel and 3 sts after lace panel. Beg with a WS row, work in stockinette and work shaping as foll: Dec 1 st at beg and end of 4th row, then every foll row 6 times = 2 sts remain. Cut yarn, draw yarn end through remaining 2 sts and pull tight. Weave in end. Repeat for right front pocket flap.

Finishing:
Pin pieces to measurements and block. Sew shoulder seams. Collar: With size 5 mm circular needle, WS facing, and beginning and ending 13 sts in from each front edge, pick up and knit 49 sts along left front, back and right front neck edge. Next row: P3, * k1, p2; rep from * 13 times, k1, p3. Work sts as they appear until collar measures 8 cm, working 2 increase rows as foll: On 5th row, inc 1 st in every other k2 section. On 7th row, inc 1 st in every remaining k2 section = 64 sts. Loosely bind off all sts in pat. Sew short edges of collar over 6 sts at each front neck edge. Sew in sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew on buttons. Sew button to left front pocket flap, sewing down flap in the process. Repeat for right front pocket flap.
